Just Do It.

This is my short reveiw on theRupse 8 Inch DVD GPS player for VW seriesWhen first looking through different headunits for my GTI I knew I wanted it to look stock/OEM. So the normal aftermarket Pioneer or Kenwood set-up was out of the question. I started researching the RNS-510 and other OEM units. None of them offered everything I wanted in my limited college kid with a baby budget, so I said eff it and went with a Chinese OEM replica.Here is the link from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Rupse-Inch-DVD-GPS-player/dp/B008POVSDG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=A59OO3NF467ZG&qid=1353396410&s=generic&sr=1-1First I choose a unit that was very similar to the one you see above. That one had 5 or 6 reviews that were all good so I went for it. Turns out koolerton was sold out of that model. Koolerton knocked off $20 and gave me express shipping. (Very Cool) got the unit and it look pretty much perfect. The 8 inch screen is a jewel compared to the stock Premium 7 HU. Installation was pretty much easy. Pop clips, dont drop screws, be tender and patient its a German car; the norm. Built with Bluetooth, TV Analog box, rear view function, IPod compatible, Navigation, Mp3/DVD, 2 Channel Output ports and 1 channel Input port with 1 sub woofer outlet; the features listings are pretty cool.First of all, I was hoping they would have an iPod option being that the new iPhone has a different charge plug, but they didn't. That is understandable because most items on the market don't either. I ended up mapping that cable threw the dash into the glove compartment, which works out perfectly. For now I keep my iPod connected to it. I also routed the GPS antenna up in the dash vent. Even wih(Problem 1) During installation I started the car up to be sure that everything worked properly except for putting a cd in the disk insert. After a little research I realized they put 2 screws in the top on the HU to hold the disk plate still while in the shipping process. SOLVED. (Problem 2) The car threw and Airbag Fault code because I started the car while having the airbag connector unplugged. (Problem 3) The HU wouldn't turn on or off when the car started or and cut off. I ended up comparing the stock Can-Bus to the new and made a little switch. After 2 tries I got it. The radio now starts with the car and turns off 3 seconds after the car shuts off. Not perfect but SOLVED.The map feature is kind of slow but it gets me to where I need to go. I really wanted a ladies voice telling me where to go but the HU doesn't come with voice announcement. You cant control the music volume while you are in navigation mode. That's annoying.The unit also doesn't come with a XM radio feature which is okay because I don't use it anyway. The Bluetooth microphone could be better but it works when you need it, just speak up. I don't have rear view camera so the screen displays a car and black screen when in reverse, very cool to me.Overall, I like the unit. It looks OEM plays DVDs in high resolution, finds me when I am lost and brightens up the interior. I rate this product a 4 out of 5 only because the navigation loads slowly. Sometime this summer I will do a follow up review.
