4PIONEER AVH-P4300 and Pioneer CD-BTB200BT Critical Review
By AllergyPurifiers-com
Updated 9-16-11NOTE that this review is for both the PIONEER AVH-P4300 and Pioneer CD-BTB200BT as I feel they are both a required for most users with phones; especially IPhones.Everyone wants to hear how great this head unit is; as it really is, and some want to know what flaws it might have; which it has. Keep in mind this is a personal review; my opinion. Let me start by asking Pioneer...what is the sense of having such great iPhone and iPod compatibility and functionality without having the most basic IPhone functionality? Making and receiving calls with seamless music interruption, and basic phonebook access). The PIONEER AVH-P4300 DVD is advertised with Bluetooth compatibility with the Pioneer CD-BTB200BT Bluetooth module, While it may be "compatible", there is a real lack of integration with the PIONEER AVH-P4300 DVD and CD-BTB200BT Bluetooth unit.POSITIVES:BLOOTOOTH:While very basic, it works for incoming and outgoing calls most of the time.Sound quality from Bluetooth is very good.INTERNAL PROGRAMMING / Integration / Sound Quality:* The screen is responsive to touch with very little lag.* Great navigation in music / video and all menus for settings.* Good IPOD control* APP Mode* Pandora integration* Auto EQ (setup microphone required)* 5-band EQ* Able to output to a second screen using two different sources or both screens to one source* Sounds very good with the help of Auto EQ and other settings or 5 band graphic EQ.* Excellent soundstage and presence when the Auto EQ is used.* Good integration with IPOD / IPhone 4.* 4V preamp outputs* Lots of connections on the back* 7" screen is bright (seems to look best when you turn on the black level in picture adjustments)* You can change the viewing angle* Plays DVD's* Bluetooth Audio Streaming has very good soundThis Head unit sounds absolutely amazing when set up right - even in a high end component system.NEGATIVES / Bugs / Problems:BLOOTOOTH:* Every time Bluetooth connects - no sound until I disconnect and reconnect the iPhone or go into the streaming choice menu and select the "Dock Connector" - even when BT Audio is set to manual - it connects still. FYI: There are 2 BT connection choices displayed on the iPhone 4 for the CD-BTB200, mine are called "Pioneer BT unit2" (for audio streaming), the other is "Dock Connector" (for phone uses).* About half the time when I answer the phone on the head unit - it answers, but music is playing through the IPhone 4 earpiece along with the person I am trying to talk to - it's a pain to switch to the music source and pause it, then switch back to the phone screen so the person on the other end can hear me! (It's easier to just unplug the CD-IU200V cable). This is not a problem with the IPhone 4 - it is a problem with the Pioneer CD-BTB200BT Bluetooth system - confirmed with a pioneer technician. I had a Sony MEX-BTB2800 (paid $109.00) which did all Bluetooth functions perfectly (the Sony MEX-BTB2800 is a very basic head unit and does not compare to this Pioneer unit, but it has excellent Bluetooth integration compared to this). Pioneer also informed me that the CD-BTB200BT system is old technology that was designed about five years ago. No wonder there are so many problems with it!* Can't seem to register more than one Bluetooth device or juggle connections* No phonebook functions - unrecognizable / unusable call history / Bluetooth functions.* Can't dial from the screen or import your phone book or browse call history (I think this does support last call dialing, but there are no labels for the function buttons to use this and you can't see the number you're dialing on screen, etc.)* Audio Streaming is an important function for me so my family can stream from an IPAD or IPOD's, but I still need to use my phone on Bluetooth - won't do both. Should be able to juggle 2 connections. You have to completely disconnect one to connect to another...understandable, but there is no menu selection to do this intuitively. Also, the volume level for Bluetooth phone should be separated from audio volume and remembered (like my cheap Sony unit did) so if you were listening to loud music and you get a call...the person on the other end will be extremely loud until you turn the volume down.* Overall, the Pioneer AVH-P4300 has poor Bluetooth integration when used with the separately available CD-BTB200BT adapter. Quality Bluetooth integration should be built in to all mobile units especially when advertised. Many electronics 5-6 yrs. older have better Bluetooth.* Another reviewer on AMAZON states "It boggles my mind how lesser Pioneer models like P3300BT have full Bluetooth phonebook support, and full caller history, yet their more expensive line has only crippled Bluetooth." And I feel the same way - especially when we paid so much more with the CD-BTB200. Everyone expects stellar functionality with a separate component like this - we paid much more and got so much less functionality than the cheaper units with built in BT.VIDEO:* IPhone 4 Video and audio is always out of sync a little - it can be a little annoying. In talking with a Pioneer technician, he told me of a programming sequence to change from digital to analog mode that may resolve this problem, however, at a (major) cost to the sound reproduction in analog mode. The procedure is to start with the ignition off, then push and hold both mode and eject buttons - holding them in while turning ignition on and waiting until you hear a single beep. The same procedure is supposed to be used to revert back to digital mode, but I couldn't get it to go back so I just reset the whole unit again with the reset button. I do not see this as an adequate fix to the problem if it reduces the audio quality. I tried it and the sound was a bit lifeless, lacked punch, clarity and detail.* While this unit will play videos from your iPhone while multitasking on the iPhone, it will quit playing video (but continues audio) for video files if you either close the screen that is open on your iPhone 4 while playing iPod/iPhone music videos/movies, or if you turn off the phone display (because it is too bright at night) by touching the power button on the IPhone 4. There is a work around that will allow you to multitask on the iPhone 4 and will allow you to turn off your screen and still watch video; Before getting the video playing, close the iPod program on the phone, then select the video/movie track (from the Pioneer interface) through the video menu - now you can multitask and use other programs on your phone, or you can turn off the display of your phone while playing videos or music from your iPhone. Since it already has the ability, I think it should be programmed to automatically play in the background.* The resolution of the screen is low, even compared to most high end smartphones, and is just not sharp, although the picture quality is still very good.INTERNAL PROGRAMMING / Integration / Sound Quality:* NO MP4 support (SD) and decreased sound quality from high quality files on an SD card.* It is a little annoying that the unit will usually start playing the same song every time you connect the cable to the iPhone or IPOD (selected alphabetically). The AVH-P4300 does not remember what song or video it was last playing when you disconnect the CD-IU200V cable. Never remembers where you left off when using IPOD control when you unplug. It should work like Pandora on the iPhone or other electronics; it starts where you left off.* The AVH-P4300 does NOT have a flash chip or battery backup for all of you custom settings...so when you need to disconnect the battery, (which all of us occasionally need to do for service, etc.), all custom setup is LOST, including the Auto EQ setup, etc. It will be just like you bought the unit and just pulled it out of the box. No EQ settings or any customization is saved. This is a major pain in the A - especially if you have set up the Auto EQ. Tailoring the system to your tastes and setting up the Auto EQ again will take about 15-20 minutes even when familiar with setup.* "Hiss" noise when moderate to heavy equalization is used - especially Auto EQ. Although this has a CEA2006 rating of 91dBA on the amplifier section, the preamp section with moderate to heavy EQ settings I might guess could be in the 55-60 dB Signal to Noise range. The signal to noise rating is when using no EQ adjustments. As soon as you start to increase the EQ bands the hiss becomes worse. The hiss gets progressively worse the more you increase the band dB - even at low volume or average listening levels. (don't confuse this with engine noise or external noise sources, as this is when the car is off - also using high quality RCA cables which have better than 60 dB noise rejection going to amps which are set to about half gain Sources that create the most hiss include Auto EQ, the 3 loudness settings, any of the Equalizer settings, (the "Powerful" EQ selection is worse), and the Sound Retriever (S.Rtrv). With all of these off or with mild use, you will have a very quiet system with no hiss that draws attention in quiet tracks or in-between tracks - acceptable even at high volumes.* If you use the Auto EQ, you cannot fine tune the results with the 8-band graphic equalizer. So I like what the Auto EQ did, but would like to fine tune (on the graphic EQ) a couple frequency bands for a little more treble and low end....can't do it unless you turn off the Auto EQ profile completely. What you can do while the Auto EQ profile is selected is use the bass boost, choose from 3 loudness settings that sound like they up the bass, midrange and treble at the same time, still can adjust the subwoofer level, and use the equalization profiles that come with the unit - such as Super Bass, Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Flat,...but you don't get the Custom 1 or Custom 2 equalizer settings when using the Auto EQ profile.* This setup could use a 10 band EQ one more at about 60Hz, and one more at 12 KHz.* Does not have source specific audio equalization profiles for Bass, Treble, EQ, etc. All of your sources will use the one profile.* Text of song names, etc. gets cut off - there is room for more lines on this 7" screen but it just isn't programmed to display it completely.* Would be nice to have had a 3.5mm jack on the front right bottom row as well as the back* Lack of a physical volume knob - but I knew this. I just think Pioneer should have at least made the volume buttons stand out a little from the rest of them - at least by feel as they are hard to find if you don't look at it. Even now I go to turn the volume down and mistakenly hit the next track forward or back buttons. They all look and feel the same and the track forward and reverse buttons are the first ones on the left side of the unit. It would be good to have a more distinguishable knob or button that has volume and push click functions. I think the volume control should be on the left side - closest to the driver.* The manual you get is for the AVH-P3300BT as well as the AVH-P4300DVD. I think they are different enough that they should each have their own manual. For me it just pissed me off the read about the excellent Bluetooth integration features and then to see that it only applies to the AVH-P3300BT model...pissed because I paid close to $150.00 extra for the CD-BTB200BT.* Lastly... WTF... is Pioneer the Video Police or what? You will have to use a relay bypass or switch to get it to play video while driving down the street (so your passengers can watch). If using the relay setup, you will also have to put a switch in line with the amp turn on (blue) wire which will connect to a switched 12V source to be able to set up the Auto EQ setup. (Setup microphone required Like you're going to set up auto EQ while driving down the street....whatever)CONCLUSION:PIONEER AVH-P4300:I'm keeping it because it is well worth the $350.00 I paid for it, has a 7 inch responsive touch screen, enough IPhone 4 integration, and enough customization ability. The sound quality is excellent when using Auto EQ; creates an excellent soundstage presence.Pioneer CD-BTB200BT Bluetooth module:While not worth the money, with several flaws, using technology older than 5 years, I can get it to work for 7 out of 10 incoming, and about 9 out of 10 outgoing calls, I can use the phone to dial out (if I select the phone input source first), the sound quality is good, and I just need to know when I am getting a phone call when music is playing and...It is already installed. There is a real lack of integration with the PIONEER AVH-P4300 DVD and CD-BTB200BT Bluetooth unit.If you have this setup already and would like Pioneer to get a firmware update to fix any problem or change the functionality, please email Pioneer right off their "contact us" page as I have been told by a Pioneer technician that it will take about 150 complaints about the same problem before they look at it and try to fix or change it or get a firmware update. I think that's a bad policy - should look at even 10-20 complaints as usually there are so many more who will not submit a possible problem.I think I might choose the Pioneer AVH-P3300BT over this if I could do it all over again, as this has built in Bluetooth (which is supposed to be well integrated compared to the CD-BTB200BT), and has a 3.5mm front jack. Why do they make you choose one product with inferior features, over another product with different inferior features?Components used in my system:* Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD* Pioneer CD-BTB200BT* Alpine PDX-M12 & Alpine RUX-KNOB* Alpine SWR-1242D 12" SUB (just ordered an Image Dynamics IDMAX12 V.3 D2 (RMS: 1000 watts, 1,800 peak, Sensitivity: 93.1 dB)* Alpine MRP-F300 (going to replace it with the Alpine PDX F4)* Polk Audio MM691 6x9' pair* Infinity Reference 6032cf 6.5-Inch pair (might replace with Polk MM6501 separates)* Optima Yellow top.* Tsunami Fbw701-anl fuse holder* Raptor RANL2502 fuse* The big 3 with KnuKonceptz.com Kolossus Fleks Kable 1/0 and Rockford Fosgate 0 AWG* Absolute CAP5000 50-Farad 16V Capacitor (for power conditioning only - I wouldn't be surprised if this tested out to be somewhere between 2-10 Farad - I am skeptical - but I somehow got it for $65.00, then the next day the price was raised to $160.00 ...at least it looks good and the volt meter is accurate - I know it has some capacitance as it will light a 12V 8 watt light for about 20 seconds, of which about 14 seconds are bright (so if someone knows the approx. capacitance based on that let me know!)* Monster MPC I304 4C RCA & Monster MPC I302 2C RCA* Rockford Fosgate RFK4D 4 AWG Dual Amplifier Install Kit (didn't use the RCA's from this kit for too long - they are junk - these were the cause of noise in my system and even signal drop-outs due to loose connections - fixed this completely with the above mentioned Monster RCA's).

5Tremendous Value
By jpsalerno
Just received this and am extremely pleased. In the past, I had bought $1000+ in-dash nav systems for my cars. I've always been a fan of Pioneer's UI so when I heard about the iPhone/Pandora/MotionX GPS functionality I was immediately sold. Why spend an extra $500+ on a nav equipped unit when your smartphone already has it built in? You need to charge your phone while in the car anyway. In addition, I actually find it much easier to input what I'm looking for on my phone so it's a win/win all aroundThe othe reviewer stated his frustration with the lack of bluetooth. Does he knows there are othe units with this built in? Either way, I feel it's a waste. Unless you've got a luxury car with great sound insulation, nobody's going to hear you. I've had 2 other pioneer BT equipped units (on a Mazda and Honda) and never used it. Always reverted to the headset instead. I supposed it would be nice to see this information on the screen... then again, that's not really a deal-breaker to me. Also, BT audio is pointless (when you have an ipod cable) since the quality isn't quite as good so... again, BT just isn't necessary.Last but not least... My only knock on this unit is the lack of a physical knob. JVC makes some similar units but all of them have the USB jack on the front. This is a deal-breaker for me and should be for you too. Trust me when I say... you do not want to plug your cable into the front. It's relatively ok for an aux cable since those aren't meant to stay in permanently. iPhone cables, on the other hand, are. Be sure to get one with a USB jack on the back.

5A terrific non-nav unit
By DryvBy
I've had mine for a little over a week, and it's perfect. It makes my Mustang look a lot nicer. I didn't plan on getting the navigational system until later, as I normally know where I'm going anyway (work + home). The screen is really nice, and doesn't look as thought it will attrack fingerprints. The display is bright enough during the day time, which was something I was worried about. The touch controls work fine. The Divx works great. I have a ton of shows on Divx and they loaded just fine. DVDs play perfect, and load fast. The music shuffles music from all folders on a disc. My last player only shuffled music within a folder, so this was a nice improvement.I haven't tried the SD card, but I plan on loading a 32GB full of music and just keeping those songs in my car as a permanant play list. There's only a few things I didn't like, but it's not a huge deal and nothing "wrong" with the product. The album art only displays on Pandora/iPod devices. I have all of my MP3s setup with album art and none of my MP3's art on my burned DVD worked. Along with that is an issue with scrolling text, which is not a feature of this product. So if you're listening to a band called "The Presidents of the United States of America" (good band, btw), you will only see something like "The Presidents of t" as it cuts the text off. It would have been nice to see scrolling text. The last complaint I have about this unit is the lack of MP4 support without an iPod. Most of the music videos I have are in MP4 format. If you are planning on buying this unit and have a ton of music videos to burn in this format, I'd suggest just using DivX's own Convertor software (just check their website and buy the Pro for unlimited converts). It manages to keep things at a low file size while maintaining near-same quality video/audio. It's also fast. I managed to convert over 45 music videos in under an hour.Overall, a great DVD head unit that looks really good.

5for basic, mid to mid/high end setups => look no further!
By Jonathan Huckabay
I used to install car stereos for 6 years and this is the best, hands down, bargain for the quality and performance.Pre-amp outputs are front, rear and sub rated at 4 volts each. This is -perfect-Has an Auxillary 35mm(1/8 inch) plug for any audio playing device you could think of; it has a USB port on the front and beyond the Crabapple iPod you can use a USB flashdrive. I opt for the flash drive with 8 gigabytes rather than anything else.CD Play is perfect and skip free and capable of "forcing" the player to read those aweful CDs that are scratched beyond belief.I have read and heard numerous complaints of the complexity of the owner's manual but I shall report that it pales in complexity to any home stereo reciever manual. You basically use ONE KNOB which lets you keep your eyes on the road as you turn up or turn down the volumne, change the song, change the USB music folder, change the equalizer, change the high/low/subwoofer pass filters and MORE with ONE KNOB! Remote control also included in case you just want to lay back and not move your arm nor lean forward with an abcrunch to adjust anything. For the money, for the features and for the quality you need to buy this and get your friends to buy one themselves.

4Overall great budget unit
By David
I bought this based primarily on 2 reasons. Firstly, I need 3 pre-outs to match my current audio setup, and secondly this has a USB connector. A few other benefits were front panel AUX IN, 2 lines of info display, decent EQ capabilities, and a blue display (to match my dash color scheme.)I replaced my 8-10 year old Sony Xplode head unit with this. I haven't owned any other units except my Sony, so I cant comment much on comparisons. This plays CD within 2 seconds after loading, it scans the USB drive after plugin and is ready to play within 3-4 seconds(+1). The radio tuner works great and gives much more precise audio quality then my previous unit. The EQ functions and control granularity are probly 2-3 times as advanced as my Sony (+1)I read a lot of reviews saying this is "hard to control" as a negative point, I disagree - this was very easy to learn. I did have a small stumbling with the initial setup tho. This was shipped in the "STANDBY" mode where it makes no output when u first turn it on... after wasting 10-15 minutes checking my wiring I realized this (-1)Update:This unit seems to be glitchy with the USB drive where sometimes it will not read or it will say "reading..." but never do anything. This issue happens a few times a week; I need to unplug & replug the drive in to fix this.Alos, over the winter I experienced multiple issues where the unit turns off entirely when I touch a button on the face. This may be related to cold weather or a loose wire, I will post back if I find a cause.

5For the price, this is a feature-packed head unit
By SMDEE
Let me clearly explain that I am not using an external amplifier with this unit. Consequently, I have no experience with the pre-outs and bass control. The audio qualities are not my top interests for thispurchase. Features, ease of use, and the display are my main tagets. That said...I am building a portable radio using a car head unit to provide input sources and amplification along with a pair of Polk db651 speakers . My requirements were to be able to listen to AM/FM (HD radio and Bluetooth at some future time), CDs, MP3s on CD, AUX input (MP3/portable DVD player), USB thumb drive, wireless remote, and the ability to control iPODs via the head unit. Another critical feature for me was a display that was visible in sunlight (at the beach) and could be read from a distance.I demo'd two Pioneer Premier units (P610BT and P510B), an Alpine unit (CDA-105), two JVC units (KD-HDR50 and KD-R600), and this one. I liked the Pioneer units a lot for features. The 510 had two USB ports, which Ireally liked. It was a bit more expensive and had a crummy display, however. The 610 had a better display but only one USB port. They had a common deal killer for me, though. The user interface, specifically thesearch feature for USB drives, was atrocious. Too much work to search for music on thumb drives. I expected much more from such an accomplished car audio company. One more jab, the fit and finish was not on par with the other units I considered. The Alpine was simply too much money for similar features. Besides, while I really liked the display, I hated the face design and colors. I can see how folks might like that radio, though. Nice unit. The JVCs were actually pretty nice with one common exception. The models I looked at had blue lettering on the displays. It was very hard to read them from a distance. The R600 did not support HD radio so I scratched it. Had I not gone with the Kenwood, I would have bought the JVC HDR50. In the end, I decided on the Kenwood. It has all the features for which I was looking, was priced far better than I anticipated it would be, and included a two year warranty.I received it yesterday via UPS. While I am not a fan of the scrolling red dots on the bottom of the display, I like the appearance otherwise. I really like the included wireless remote. It is a little thicker thanmost car radio remotes but that makes it easier for me to hold and use. It has all of the key functions on it. I know some people don't like the faceplate interface of this radio, and I understand, but the remoteprovides just about anything I need. The controls on the face will take you some time with which to become comfortable. Nothing terrible but a few things were not intuitive.I hooked the unit up to a 12V power supply and some small Klipsch loudspeakers. The connections were clearly marked on the leads. The radio came up alive quickly. It reads and plays thumb drives in a snap. I like that the artist name and song title scroll accross the display in large, easy-to-read letters. I had no problem reading them from ten feet away. It was difficult for me to determine anything about sound qualitywith the speakers that were connected but it seemed perfectly adequate. CDs and MP3 CDs loaded and played quickly, much faster than and older Alpine head unit I had on hand. The tuner had no problems out performingmy home audio receiver, which I expected. Stations locked very quickly and solidly. The AUX input worked fine, albeit at reduced volumes. My source may have more to do with that than the radio, though. I have nothad a chance to hook up an iPOD yet.I only played with the radio for a few hours but I am impressed with what I saw. It hosts a bunch of features for the cost, is very quick, and owns the best display of all the units I tested. The two year warrantydoesn't hurt, either.

5Great sound and features with easy to use interface
By Chris B.
I ordered this head unit (HU) two days before going on a 10-hour road trip with my wife and kids. I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey Touring (without nav system) and my factory HU would skip on CDs a lot and didn't have bluetooth or any iPod interface - no way I was going to drive that long with just a couple CDs. So I got this HU, a Metra wiring harness, a PAC SOEM-4 converter (Honda Odyssey has the factory HU output to an amp in a funky way), a Metra antenna adapter, an Axxess steering wheel control adapter, and a Scoche double-DIN dash kit. End result - a big bundle of wires and adapters hanging off the back of the HU. And I'm happy to say there was plenty of room in the dash cavity to fit it all.On to this HU. I literally got it hooked-up just before we threw our bags in the van and started driving. With no time to read the manual, I just started using it and it was actually quite easy to figure out. The menu for setting up options was straightforward (and the first thing I changed was the crazy light show - more on that later). Pairing it with my iPhone 4s was easy. My wife also paired it with her iPod Touch. I was playing music from my iPhone while also using it for GPS voice nav - no problem. Then we switched to my wife playing music while I was using my iPhone for nav - the HU would play her music and my iPhone would cut in for voice nav as-needed. Pretty slick.I have a factory 7 speaker system - 4 speakers, 2 dash tweeters and a sub. Sound quality is as good as with my factory HU. I was really concerned I'd notice a difference, especially given the amount of junk that I had to wire between the factory harness and the HU harness, but no problems whatsoever.About the lights, the HU can independently set the lighting color for the display and the controls/trim. And there are quite a few colors you can choose from including a setting where you can let the colors rotate on their own. At first it seemed kinda gimmicky - besides yellow, do I really need gold and pear? - it was actually nice to be able to select colors that were comfortable to look at for hours of night driving. I wound up liking blue and red the best. The display is also worth mentioning - decent amount of information is shown, it's easy to read, and there's some useful configuration options like whether to always show the clock, a level meter, etc.I've also used the USB port to hook-up my iPhone 4S and it worked like a charm. Played music, voice nav, and also charged the phone.I haven't tried the remote control yet. And I really don't know if I'll ever really use it - my primary uses will be the FM radio and Bluetooth streaming my iPhone, and the HU is within arms reach.I also haven't completely tried the Bluetooth for calls yet. I forgot to hook-up the mic (included with the HU) so when I answered an incoming call on our trip I could hear the caller really well and quickly discovered he couldn't hear me at all. Then the light bulb went on - yep, I left the mic back in my garage. Oh well - that'll be easy to fix when we get back from this trip. All in all, I'm really happy with it. And for the price, it's performs better than I expected and with all the features I was looking for.

5Great unit for a great price
By A. Alves
This brand new unit out from Pioneer is awesome and does everything that I wanted my new stereo to do. Bluetooth streaming, hands free calling, front usb for ipod control, easy to use menu, and good sound. I didn't even have to read the menu to figure how to set up everything-it's extremely easy. Bluetooth is great and connects automatically when i enter the car so i can just leave my iphone in my pocket and play the music from it. The sound quality is definitely better through the usb port though. The whole unit is a little bright because of the light bars on the side but I think that's what makes the unit look really cool at night and unique. All the different colors for the display and keys are great so you can match anything. This unit does have a dimmer its just not automatic when you turn your headlights on...you have to hold the lower right button for about 3 seconds to activate the dimmer. Makes it a lot better for night driving if you choose a bright color like white. Also what is really nice is this unit has RDS(radio data system) so when you're on a FM channel it shows the artist name and song name right on the display if that station supports it(most do). Another cool thing is the MIXTRAX which makes a dance mix with all your songs, and if you want it to can give off a crazy light show that bounces to the music. For a unit that is much cheaper than all the other double dins I thought it would be lacking features, but that is the exact opposite..it has everything I want! I highly recommend.

4Poor Bluetooth Connectivity
By Dino Kat
I purchased this player mainly for the bluetooth feature. The big problem is getting my cell phone to connect automatically each time I get back into the car. Sometimes that works great and the phone connects and I can just drive away. However, about one third of the time, the is no automatic connection and I have to pull out my cell phone and reestablish the connection. Going to the connection menu and selection the device for connecting does not work. The only way to reconnect is to pick up the phone and connect. Also the microphone sound is fuzzy and people on the other end complain about the poor sound quality. But the caller voice quality over the car speakers is good.Overall the player is good and has cool lights. And the price is excellent for the quality.

5Sony XNV 660BT - Great product
By Chris
Three months ago I bought a new Nissan Altima 2011 and declined the factory audio from the dealer, saving $3000. I think that most cars come with or the dealers rip you off with the pre-installed audio video package and when plenty of choices out there these days, so why settle for less while paying more? So, I have been on the hunt for a great multimedia system for my new car, reviewing Pioneer, Kenwood and the rest of the breed of models. Finally, am happy that I made the choice for Sony XNV660BT.GPS is excellent, TomTom provides turn by turn so well, all nearby places of interest, and surprise, warned me of everything, including the Red Light cameras placed by the city. Saved right away a couple of hundred dollars there! The screen is awesome, crystal clear and DVD plays with vibrant colors. I bought Alpine 3 way speakers for the rear and with the Sony EQ, the sound is rich and full inside the car. BT works just fine, did sync immediately with my IPhone and Blackberry Storm without any problem, and audio streaming was effortless. Multiple audio sources with USB in the glove box make it a perfect companion for any device. The knob on the screen is cute and very handy. The package contained night vision rear view camera and BestBuy guys installed it at the perfect place, just next to the license plate, flush and neat. The view in color is real good, either day or night. I like esp. the display of the distance of objects behind the car, that helps. All in all, this unit beats all the competition hands down with the price, product quality and ease of use. Cost? I got this package, rear speakers and installs all done within my budget of $1000. Can't be happier. Highly recommended.A happy customer.

4Great if your main use is GPS, Bluetooth phone and Bluetooth music streaming from your phone, Radio and DVD mp3 or DVD movies
By Juicex
I love this unit because it meets all our needs. 4 stars because of cons listed below. I installed it myself in a 2011 Honda Civic EX and been using it for about 3-4 weeks. Installed the unit by itself (No Satellite radio or backup camera added)Pros:-Bluetooth phone works well for the primary phone or primary driver (when my fiance drives the car, she has to manually go into the menu and click on her already paired phone in order for her to use it) - Sound quality for caller and receiving caller is great (had to reposition microphone to do this)-Bluetooth music streaming works very well with excellent sound. Pandora and all... Several reviews mention how hard it is to navigate from the unit, but if you just leave it on shuffle that's not a problem or what I do is just stream from my phone so I can easily use the phone's music app to navigate thru... I'm not the type to want to change songs all the time while driving, i have playlists I make based on my mood and just select on my phone before I start driving (or change it safely at a red light :).-Great quality screen, viewable in the sun-Sound - with XPLOD setting turned on, the sound quality sounded significantly better on Honda stock speakers than it did with the factory radio.-TomTom GPS is excellent with latest UI that beats Garmin in my opinion, IQ route + detailed lane change pictures are not in Garmin I believe.....great addition of removable unit that can be plugged in to your pc for free map updates from users for life or for 1 year directly from TomTOm-Radio - touchscreen interface, once you get used to, very easy to navigate and even finds stations based on genre-DVD player - Plays movies just in like a normal dvd player, use of remote makes this extremely easy. Sony LCD screen makes colors vivid and visible in sunlight-Screen brightness dims for the radio, etc but not GPS when you turn on your headlightsCons --One of my biggest disappointments, having to navigate thru the menus to activate an already paired phone when switching drivers....-Ipod - navigating thru ipod music collection as others have mentioned, is hard-TomTom gps doesn't automatically switch to "night mode" when you turn on headlights or based on time... (not sure if this may be a seeting i haven't found yet)-The screen wasn't calibrated out of the box, so for a few days I was totally disappointed on how hard it is to press the buttons until I read the manual and it said you can calibrate the touchscreen! (Touchscreen has been easy to use since)Self Installation details for Honda Civic EX 2011-I bought wiring harness and antenna harness from Amazon - additional $25- Scosche gray double din dashboard kit from Amazon - $40 (color match is almost perfect)- steering wheel controller from Amazon - $40 (Haven't gotten this wired properly yet, will update later)-I found forums that showed how to remove Honda civic dashboard panels with detailed pictured instructions. This was the easiest part.-Bought a soldering iron from home depot to solder honda wiring harness to Sony wires included with the sony unit. (All color coded that matched perfectly)-Removed factory radio and transfered A/C vents, and A/C controls, air bag light and emergency blinkers button to the scoshe dash kit-Plugged back in all the wires-Voila!

2I wish I could return this
By johnny
The GUI for this unit is slow, sometimes unresponsive, and just plain blows! Looking though your iPod from the unit is horrible, you can't go back to the last artist you were listening to when you want to change what's playing, you have to start at the top of the list again. With the slow, unresponsive GUI and processor speed...it's a royal PITA!The unit's audio quality is good, the display looks good, and the NAV was working great UNTIL YESTERDAY, then I got lost in the middle of nowhere(in the middle of the night) thanks to the inability to locate a GPS signal. It wasn't that one wasn't available, the unit was having problems. Looked into this online, and it seems other people have had the same issues.Oh...and the U.S. version doesn't have TomTom live..TomTom and Sony apparently just "pass the buck" to each other when Nav issues get brought up! I'll find out if this is true when I call them on Monday.I would not buy this unit again, I actually just looked to see if I could return it, but I'm about 12 days past the return window.

5Excellent navigation, iPhone/iPod integration & hands free calling
By Adam Chalmers
UPDATED REVIEW: My earlier review only gave this unit 4/5 stars because it wouldn't download the address book from my iPhone 3G. Please read on and see how this issue was resolved.I got this unit yesterday at Mickey Shorr (Canton, MI). They installed it in my 2006 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer in about an hour and I was off and running. The iPod integration is top notch. Using the touchscreen controls I instantaneously scroll back and forth between songs. So for the guy who installed this unit in his F-150, I'm not sure why you're experiencing the latency issue of 10-15 seconds to scroll to the next song, or go back one track. I feel bad for him because I'm thrilled with the speed and ease of use. The GPS is from Garmin who I believe to be the best. GPS in the unit is very accurate and could NOT be easier to use. Overall, with 15-20 minutes of fooling around I was able to master all the controls of the DNX6960 and same with my wife (since it's in her car).I formerly had an issue with the unit in which it couldn't download the address book from my iPhone 3G (software version 4.1). The phone paired with the unit instantly (AWESOME!) but would not download my address book. The letters "DL" would show up at the top of the telephone screen for 3-4 seconds and disappear. This told me the address was being downloaded, but the address book touch screen icon was still greyed out. Low and behold, by mistake I found where the installer hid the bypass switch and it was set to "ON." So I figured this meant the unit was in bypass mode, meaning the parking break IS BYPASSED from having to be engaged to watch videos and download the address book. Apparently not because when I flipped it to the "OFF" position just for the hell of it, the address book touch screen icon became active. I said if I was able to figure this out I would let everyone know and rate the unit 5 stars. So here we are. I figured it out and I have no reluctance giving the Kenwood DNX6960 5/5 stars. I hope this helped someone out who was experiencing the same issue.AC

4The unit I have been looking for
By Big Shane
I was looking at the DNX9960 and this unit to replace the Pioneer F90BT that started to give trouble. I ended up going with this unit because it was much more affordable, the features I were interested in were more or less the same, and the form and screen size were very similar to the F90BT. It is not as modifiable as the pioneer but performance-wise it surpasses the F90BT by far. The interface is easy to learn, however setting the configuration for the optimum sound took a little work. The garmin navigation is my preference - I am familiar with the interface and maps are easily available for any area (I am not using this unit in the US). The pre-outs are 5volt as compared to the 3volts on the pioneer. I am using this with an infinity 5350A multichannel amplifier and infinity components with a pioneer low-profile subwoofer, and the sound I am getting now as compared to the pioneer seems to be packing a little more juice. All in all, I am very satisfied with this head unit and would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade. GO GET ONE.

2TERRIBLE iPod integration!!
By T-Bone
After installing this head unit in my 2008 Ford F150 I got very excited. This really is a classy head unit in most respects. I've got my phone paired with the Bluetooth, the navigation seems very nice, Sirius radio sounds very good, even my steering wheel controls seem to work decently with the PAC SWIJACK, but... I used the Kennwood KCA-IP301V adapter to control my 120 GB iPod Classic. Immediately I noticed that it takes anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds (more often closer to 10) to switch forward or backward between songs, or to choose the songs from the list menu. Basically whenever you switch songs the unit freezes for the 10 seconds or whatever, and then resumes. Album artwork loads just as slowly too, which I really wouldn't mind being quicker, but would sacrifice in a heartbeat if it meant I could navigate between songs quicker. Also, when trying to navigate through my music using the A-Z menu, only about half of the letters actually brings up music that starts with that letter (M gets you O, P gets you R, but L might actually get you L, etc.) In essence, it's nearly impossible to listen to your music without going crazy. It can literally take you up to a full minute to try and skip ahead 6 songs!!! Try to press track advance twice (which you WILL unconsciously do when the unit doesn't respond after the first press} and then it freezes up for the 10 seconds, then skips ahead twice - which is fine if that's what you want, but often I only wanted one song skipped, so you have to press the back button, which starts the 10 second clock all over again! I called Kenwood tech support and was told that this particular new line of head units (2010 I assume) does indeed process iPod functions slower that past year's models. I was not able to confirm that a software fix might be coming later on, only that the current slow operation is "normal" for this particular lineup. Maybe a software update is coming, maybe not. Who knows? In closing, if you intend to use your iPod like I do (my CDs never even leave the house any more), then this head unit isn't even worth the trivial price you'd pay to have it shipped to you. If you don't use iPod, then I can't imagine you being unhappy with it.I would give this product less than one star, but I think if you leave the iPod issues out of the picture, it's a GREAT player. But if you're like me and your entire music collection is on your iPod, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Shame on you, Kenwood.UPDATE - I purchased a brand new 64GB iPod Touch and it had the same issues with this head unit as my older iPod Classic. I have returned the unit. An awful first experience owing a Kenwood product.

5Perfect heel rests for H-D Sportsters
By Yurij Trytjak
Perfect pegs for my HD Sportster provide a restful position for the heels on the forward located peg mounts. I also got the Arlen Ness 1-1/4 in. Clamp-on Peg Mounts for my engine guards, for the old pegs, so I'll additional have higher foot rests for long hauls. The Kuryakyn ISO-Stirrups are very easy to install. In doing this installation you'll have to check your H-D female peg mounts for orientation. With the ISO-Stirrups in place they must not interfere with anything when folded up. If they do, you'll have to loosen the H-D OEM female mounting yokes, rotate to proper position and tighten the Allen bolt well. Then, install the ISO's. On the left side there won't be a problem with extra weight on the Stirrup because the weight of the heel will tend to tighten the H-D mount some more. But, on the right side extra heel weight can loosen the whole assembly because of the counter-clockwise torque. This is not the fault of the Kuryakyns but the H-D mount. It happened to me on the first ride out with the Stirrups. So, I returned to the garage, removed the ISO-Stirrups, removed and reinstalled the H-D mountings (after thoroughly cleaning with gasoline and drying the bolt) then, installed the right HD female adapter with red Locktite. It looks like it's there to stay. I only wish that H-D had designed the right side peg mounts with counter-threads so that extra weight on the right side tended to tighten the installation instead of loosening it.

4Good simple receiver
By D. Inman
Clean sound, clear reception. The single control wheel/button/lever takes some time to get used to, the screen saver (feature advertisement) mode was annoying until I got it turned off. I have read and re-read the manual several times and cannot find a way to get the clock to display, except at the clock time setting screen. Bluetooth works fairly well, but when I paired my iPad, it lost connection to my phone - par for Bluetooth I suppose, but I expected more - I suppose you can use the iPad via cable and have the phone paired.
